texture tip
Heya, just a tip about the texture that really helps. If you get urself a texture or wat u want on another layer like u said...... desaturate it, then set the layer type to overlay....then set it to a mask layer.....then u can paint over it and it moderates the texture so it looks more natural rather than just put on top....... look up masking layers and clipping masks.....its a great help! :)
I do that for some of my drawings, and I didn't just put the texture on top of this one even though it may appear to be. There's two textures in thisone. It's set at overlay 80% and I usually modify the colour of the texture as well as erase parts of it and darken certain parts. I wasn't really looking for a natural look on it. I was looking for a dirty look as I do with all of my drawings, but thank you for the tip.
pretty cool
I like the staff the best... kind of reminds me of a stlyized half moon shape. The helmet reminds me a lot of the Sauron masn in LotR. Nice use of colour too.
tools
Heya .... just a suggestion that you might like.... if you use the pressure sensitivity setting on your tablet - you can get smoother brush strokes that blend better. Less is more with faces..... try not to add pores willy-nilly (if you want a photo realism piece)....and with the lips..... dont forget the little groves/ridges lips have for that extra detail....but not too much or the realism will get taken away :) ......and eyebrows..... dont paint idividual lines.... if you look at eyebrows, the hairs flow more organically rather than vertical lines................other than that, just keep practicing :)
photoshop
I dont understand why you dont just paint the whole thing in photoshop?? Are you using a graphics tablet? if you are....for smooth strokes and blending.... use the pressure sensitivity function :) .....if ur going for that i mean.
